Friends of Worcester Public Library

FRIENDS OF THE WORCESTER PUBLIC LIBRARY, INC.

The Friends of the Worcester Public Library Inc. is a non-profit organization of volunteers helping to enhance the library's services to the people of the Worcester area. We were founded in 1956 to rally public support for a new main library building. Since then we have become known for our huge annual book sale, our gifts to the library, our lectures, programs, contests and special projects.

Through advocacy, volunteer services, and fundraising the Friends strive to enrich the Worcester Public Library in many ways. In particular, the Friends of the Worcester Public Library:

  • Promotes public awareness of the Library and its resources
  • Promotes appreciation of the Library as a cultural and educational asset for the community
  • Enhances the Library by funding programs and events which are not in the Library budget
  • Sponsors programs and cultural activities which foster a stronger relationship between the community and the Library
  • Produces and distributes a quarterly Library newsletter
  • Raises the funds in various ways which help support Library activities and programs
  • Advocates legislative support of the Library and its programs
  • Helps through volunteer efforts with many important Library tasks and projects

Membership benefits include a subscription to Your Library, the quarterly news bulletin and calendar of library events, low tax-deductible membership dues, volunteer opportunities, admission to "early bird" preview hours for Friends' booksales, and the satisfaction of helping to improve Worcester's quality of life.

Please join us in support of the library. The basic Friends membership begins at $10. Please call 508-799-1655, stop at the Circulation Desk for a membership form or print the online form.

SUPPORTING YOUR LIBRARY

VOLUNTEER AT THE MAIN LIBRARY

We have volunteers who range in age from 14-74! Their interests are just as broad. Of course, they all enjoy reading! Another characteristic they all share is that they value the library's mission within the community.

Our volunteers work in many different capacities, lending their behind-the-scenes support to our appreciative staff. Shelvers are always needed, especially during the school year, because so many Worcester area students utilize our resources at this time.

For more information, contact Denise Faucher, our Volunteer Coordinator, at 508-799-1642

VOLUNTEER AT THE FRANCES PERKINS BRANCH LIBRARY AT GREENDALE

Our volunteers at the Perkins Branch Library range in age from teens to retired folks--all with the same motivation: Helping us give excellent service to the communities we serve.

Volunteer tasks include book repair, shelving, and assistance at programs and special events like our annual Book Sale. Join us and get a feeling of accomplishment while giving back to your community. You can make a difference!

For further information contact Marianne Bourgault, Volunteer Services, at the Branch or call 508-799-1687.
