| The Children’s Services Area has four
(4) types of computers.
· Online Catalog – Using the online catalog,
you can find books and other materials in the Children’s
area. You can limit your searches to items in the
Children’s Collection by using the children’s interface
or you can search for any item in the Worcester
Public Library. Using the online catalog, you may
also place holds on materials not on the shelf.

· CD-ROM Computers – The library provides
computers pre-loaded with software of interest to
children such as Disney’s Adventures in Typing with
Timon and Pumbaa or Pirate Raider.
· Reserved Computers – You may sign up with
your library card to use a reserved computer to
use common applications such as MS Word, Excel and
Powerpoint, to search online databases, or search
the internet.
The Internet has great information, but it is important
to protect your privacy! Here are some “common sense”
rules you should know.
My Rules for Online Safety
I will not give out personal information such as
my address, telephone number, parents' work address/telephone
number, or the name or location of my school without
my parents' permission.
I will tell my parents right away if I come across
any information that makes me feel uncomfortable.
I will never agree to get together with someone
I "meet" online without first checking
with my parents. If my parents agree to the meeting,
I will be sure that it is in a public place and
bring my mother or father along.
I will never send a person my picture or anything
else without first checking with my parents.
I will not respond to any messages that are mean
or in any way make me feel uncomfortable. It is
not my fault if I get a message like that. If I
do I will tell my parents right away so that they
can contact the online service.
I will talk with my parents so that we can set
up rules for going online. We will decide upon the
time of day that I can be online, and appropriate
areas for me to visit. I will not access other areas
or break these rules without their permission.
